ARTiE's Capabilities

ARTiE   and    MixBASE

ARTiE is used with the EchoLink
Program written by K1RFD.

   When it is run on EchoLink it can
       become a Full Amateur Radio
HF / VHF / UHF Transceiver.

It can be used for Voice Operations,
including SSB, AM, and FM . It can also
be used for all popular Amateur Digital
modes. Including CW, PSK31, RTTY,
AMTOR, PACKET to name just a few.

ARTiE is basically used as a CLIENT. It
is a passive device that needs to be
connected to an operational MixBASE
Node to get it's operational capabilities.
In essence, if there are no MixBASE
stations on EchoLink   then ART-DX has
no real internet operational value.

ARTiE can also become a SERVER.
When EchoLink, MixW, and ARTiE are
launched on an EchoLink Node, then
ART-DX becomes a Client and a Server.
In other words these three programs
become an EchoLink MixBASE system.

When ARTiE becomes a Server it is
necessary to ensure that MixW has full
operational control of the HF radio. This
is an easy task, and there are thousands
of MixW Digital stations operating on
Amateur Radio now. Some sophisticated
interfaces are readily available for MixW,
and their incorporation into MixBASE is
transparent. If the system works as a
MixW station, it also automatically is a
MixBASE system.

When EchoLink, MixW and ART-DX
are running, then anyone can connect to
that node and fully operate that distant
station from their EchoLink Console via
the Chat Text Box, and nothing else.

If MixBASE is established on a Link or
Repeater (capable of Duplex operation),
then the HF station can also be controlled
via the Touch Tone Pads of the LOCAL
RF users, as well as the EchoLink
stations using Chat Text.

There are many safeguards in the
system, and individual stations can be
permitted use of the transmit functions.
Stations only saved in a data base by call
signs are granted permission to operate
the transmitters, all enabled by the
software. There are time-out timers, and
systems employed to protect the
transmitting station in event of system
failures.

MixBASE systems have the potential to
be conferenced into bigger systems.
There is the potential that 2, 3, 10, 50,
100, or 1000 MixBASE systems could all
be in the same connection. If such an
event was established, a single Client
could command all these conferenced
Servers at one time. By simply sending
one command in Chat Text, that Client
would cause up to 1000 MixBASE
Servers to execute the same function. In
essence the user could set 1000 radios on
14325 Khz simply by sending command
14325
via his Chat Text Box. Likewise by
entering the proper Transmit Codes, he
could cause all those stations to
simultaneously transmit his EchoLink
Voice Audio, simultaneously around the
World!

A simple HF station in a disaster area,
that has no Phone Service, no Internet
Service, no Cell Phone Service, no
Repeater Service, could be set up...
A TS-50 on 14325 Khz, a screwdriver
antenna, and a car battery for example,
could be used to connect to that same
type of CONFERENCE on EchoLink, in
a reversed fashion. Input over HF and
output over the Internet. This would
afford events like Katrina, or the
Tsunami Disaster, instantaneous
connection to 1000 points around the
world.

This is not a technology that needs to be
created. It already exists! It just needs to
be understood enough to be used!
